Texas Holdem Rules and Game Play
Texas Hold’em is one of the most common variations of standard poker, opted by both beginners as well as professional players. It came into existence during the early 90s in Texas and nowadays one can play this game both online as well as with friends.
This game is played with a standard deck of cards. This game deals with two hole cards and five community cards with face side up in three rounds known as “The Flop”, “The Turn” and the “The River”. In order to win this game, a player is required to form a best five card hand using both community cards as well as hole cards. Aces have the highest value in this game.
The game play of the Texas Hold’em can be roughly divided into three parts which are
- Setup of the Game.
- Betting Rounds.
Setup of the Game
The main motive for a player of this game is quite simple and involves winning as many chips as possible. You can play this game with either two players or up to ten players if you have many friends who like to play poker. The winner of the game is decided by evaluating the hands of each player. The player with the best hand or the one who forces other players to fold is declared the winner.
The setup of this game is quite simple as the players are just required to sit around the table to start the game. After settling down players select a dealer either by mutual consent or by dealing one card each and the one with the highest card becomes the dealer. Texas Hold’em is played with “Rotating Dealer” which means every player gets a chance to be a dealer. The person sitting on the left side of a dealer resumes the position of next dealer.
Once a decision is reached about the selection of the dealer, it is time to put out the blinds. There are two types of blinds which are small blind and big blind. The player sitting on the left side of the dealer comes up with the small blind and the player sitting next to him on the left side comes up with the big blind. The big blind is usually the double of the small blind.
The dealer then starts dealing and gives out two hole cards to each player. This starts the Preflop round.
This round allows the player to decide whether they want to fold, call or raise the bet. The raise is always in the form of one bet plus the amount of previous bet.
On completion of Preflop, the other round called “The Flop” commences. This involves dealer, dealing two burn cards and three face up cards. Once cards are on the table, betting round begins.
On completion of the bet in the flop, dealer then deals two cards. One of these cards is face down while the other one is face up. Betting starts again.
If there is still more than one player left in the game, the River is dealt by the dealer. It again involves dealer dealing one face down and one face up card. This is the final dealing round and no other cards are dealt after it. The betting again resumes between the players.
